Babies Bounce
Once upon a time a friend of the family was finishing up a visit when our eldest was only months old, his parting shot was “babies bounce”. Well, as new parents we just sloughed that off as a harmless comment. Well, within a half hour of him leaving, the baby rolled right off the couch, onto the floor…she bounced, bounced back after an amount of startling crying…
Well, at a friend’s house lastnight, another friend was explaining to us the benefit of a split level house, the benefit of the stairs being only 5 steps in either direction. “Oh yeah, our kids have fallen down the stairs plenty of times…”, he says, man, I should have just decked him right then and there…with in minutes, one of the 2 year olds fell down the last 3 of the 5 steps…and lo and behold she bounced, right down to the bottom. She’s okay, tweaked a wrist a little, but no worse for wear. I guess as a parent one never gets used to the bouncing of our kids!

Got the dreaded phone call yesterday-school nurse calls to say the eldest had an accident at school. Best part is this is being relayed to me through my mother, our childcare provider. She relays to me that the nurse had said that the bleeding had stopped, but “it’s” starting to swell now. I tell my mom to go pick her up and I’ll call the doctor, I’m stuck at work unable to leave due to there NEVER being emergency coverage. God forbid it was a TRUE emergency… Turns out to be alright, she got herself GOOD. One of those REALLY UGLY GOOD cuts. Luckily nothing broke through the face, no broken teeth, no stitches, just a slightly swollen face, FAT lip, couple of nasty cuts inside the mouth. Of course that was just the end to a very stressful day for my mom that started the night before when the twins woke up at midnight (they had spent the night with my folks) and decided that they no longer wanted to sleep in playpens. My mom of course then spent the rest of that night in the guest bed with them. She leisurely drove out to our house with the twins, eldest at school already, trying to keep them awake. She gets to our house at 10am only to realize she doesn’t have a house key with her. Another 40 minutes later she’s back at her house feeding the twins lunch and putting them down for a nap at her place. Then back to our house just after 1pm, and then gets the call from the nurse at 2pm. Thankfully all was quiet today…
